Sunnis Give Up & Go American

The Sunni Muslim leaders of Anbar province, a hotbed of insurgency, are throwing in the towel and going with America. Says Sunni religious leader Sheik Abed al-Latif Hemaiym in an interview with The Times: "We now believe we must get on good terms with the Americans. As Arab Sunnis, we believe that within this hot area of Iraq, facing challenges from neighboring nations who want to swallow us, especially the Iranians, we feel we have no alternative."

The most difficult question remaining now is how is the media going to spin this into more proof of the inevitable American defeat?

Steve you know damn well how the press is going to spin this. They aren't. IGNORE the fact is what the mainstream press is going to do with the story. Instead they will focus on bullshit stories like "illegal" "wiretaps" of known terrorists. If it bleads it leads and this story has no blood.

Cerebralwaste,

I find your lack of faith in our noble unpartisan press shocking, simply shocking.

However, taking your point, what will the press do when the good news from Iraq gets so big and pervasive that it can not be ignored? My guess is that they will simply claim to have predicting success the whole time and have been on the side of the victors, just as the Democrats claimed to be against Communism all along and part of the good fight.

Steve

Some of the press will do exactly what you have said and the others will ignore the issue and pretend it didn't happen.

A few brave journalists will report the facts and they will be left to rot by the people who employee them.

The mainstream press has moved so far away from the basic premise of reporting the who what where when how and why and they still don't get it. Ratings are down for network news and Newspaper and Magazine circulation is falling as well. Not bery good signs for the industry. Still they live work and report in a bubble. I don't see it ending any time soon.

Well, it's Jan. 6th, and this is the first I've heard of this story. Not so much as a whisper!
